Hilmir Snær Guðnason

Born on 24 January 1969 in Reykjavík, Icelandic actor, Hilmir Snaer Gudnason, graduated from the Icelandic School of Drama in 1994. Immediately hired by the Icelandic National Theatre he has already won acclaim in musicals as well as in classical and contemporary plays and soon established himself as one of Iceland's best character actors. He has won several prizes, including the DV Cultural Award for Best Actor for his performance of Hamlet in 1998. Most of his work has been dramatic, but he has also honed his talent as a comic, on stage as well as on television. Despite his young age he has played lead in eight films, including Fridrik Þór Fridriksson's Angels of the Universe, Iceland’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards, and on stage he has lead in plays such as Hamlet, Art, The Idiot, Don Juan and Of Mice and Men. Hilmir Snær has not only enjoyed success at the box office as he has been awarded numerous awards for acting on stage and screen, gaining international attention for his performance in 101 Reykjavík, the film debut of director Baltasar Kormákur. At the Berlin Film Festival he was named "Shooting Star 2000".
